COWRA POW HOLOGRAM
One of Cowra’s most memorable visitor experiences, the Cowra POW Hologram Theatre brings the extraordinary story of the 1944 Cowra Breakout to life in a powerful nine-minute holographic presentation.
Housed inside a replica World War II POW Camp hut at the Cowra Visitor Information Centre, the experience tells the story through the eyes of Clare, a young local woman, taking visitors back to the events that forever shaped Cowra’s history.
More than a story of war, the Hologram introduces visitors to Cowra’s remarkable journey from conflict and sacrifice to friendship, peace and reconciliation — a legacy that continues to define the town today.
The Cowra Breakout was the largest prison escape of World War II, and its story can still be explored across Cowra through the former POW Camp site, Japanese and Australian War Cemeteries, Sakura Avenue and other significant historic sites.
The famous Cowra POW Hologram is the perfect place to begin your journey. Meet Clare, discover the story of the Cowra Breakout, then step out and explore the places where this remarkable chapter of Australian history unfolded.
Located inside the Cowra Visitor Information Centre, our Hologram is free for all visitors and no bookings are required. The show starts automatically, so simply come on in, meet Claire and discover the story of the Cowra Breakout.
