A Day in the Life of a Wattle

Discover the fascinating life cycle of wattles and the many ways they benefit our environment throughout their life—and beyond.

The day begins at the Weddin Community Native Nursery, where staff will demonstrate wattle propagation, including seed cleaning, germination techniques, seedling care and planting.

Dr. Suzette Searle from the Wattle Day Association will present Wattles – Nature’s Nitrogen Fertilisers, sharing insights from her former CSIRO research on wattle seed inoculation. Participants will also hear from 2024 Golden Wattle Award recipient Mikla Lewis OAM about the remarkable ecological and practical value of wattles.

Enjoy morning tea and lunch while browsing a selection of wattle-inspired stalls. In the afternoon, participants are invited to join Mikla for a guided wattle walk at her property, Rosemont (Holy Camp Road, Grenfell), to explore local wattle species, their ecological roles and their value in farming landscapes.

This is a free event, but registration is essential for catering purposes. Morning tea and lunch are provided.

Please bring a water bottle and wear sturdy enclosed footwear. A hat and long pants are recommended for the guided walk.
