SABURO NAGAKURA PARK
This picnic park, established in 1989 was a gift to Cowra from Saburo Nagakura’s eponymous foundation. An influential Japanese businessman, Nagakura was impressed with Cowra’s civic peace and reconciliation efforts. This park is a symbol of his friendship with Cowra.
In 1989, the Saburo Nagakura Park was established on Sakura Avenue, and the park achieved its current state during the 1990s under then-Mayor Bruce Miller. The Foundation is now managed by the son, Mr Nagakura Seiji, and it still contributes to the maintenance of the Cowra Japanese Garden and Cultural Centre and Sakura Avenue, as well as providing the funding for the cherry trees from the park down to the intersection with Evans Street. It is called Nagakura Walk, a distance of about half a kilometre.
